About the Practice

Our story began way back in 2017. When the creator of MCC, Heather Steele, decided to put her decade's worth of experience into her own practice. And over the years, after using cutting-edge methods (including Somatic Experiencing) to help well over 1,000 clients, Heather was able to grow MCC from 1 practitioner to a small but mighty team serving residents from Morrisville, Durham, Raleigh, and Cary, NC.

The professionals at MCC are single-mindedly focused on helping people like you cope with all of life’s challenges. And they do this by providing outstanding mental health and therapy services including EMDR.

We are so proud to call the Triangle home. With so many amazing things to do and such great people to work with it's a community we love to serve.

What does a a counselor or therapist do?

A therapist is a professional who helps people identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil. Therapists help clients improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. To achieve that goal therapist may  conduct individual or group counseling sessions. Therapists use a variety of techniques during counseling sessions. The technique that is used depends on the client’s needs and the counselor’s style. Common techniques include:

- exploring emotions and feelings associated with the problem

- developing coping skills

- practicing new skills

- role playing

- setting goals

- providing support

- making referrals to other professionals, if necessary.

Learn more about what precisely a therapist does.

What is the difference between a therapist and counselor?

There is some overlap between the terms "counselor" and "therapist." They are both used to refer to mental health professionals who offer counseling or therapy. However, in specific terms, “counselor” and “therapist” refer to two separate categories of mental health professionals. Some of their skills and interests may be similar, but their training and licensing are not the same. When comparing the two for your personal mental health therapy, the most significant distinction to consider is finding a therapist who offers techniques that are tailored to your specific requirements. Our team at Morrisville Counseling has training and expertise in a wide variety of counseling and therapy techniques. You can find out what the titles and letters after our therapists' name's mean in our guide. Or contact us to see if we are a good fit for your needs.

What are the benefits of counseling?

Counseling can provide many benefits. Talking to a therapist can help you feel better. You can talk about things that are making you unhappy. The therapist will help you understand how these things are making your life difficult and will give you strategies to deal with the problems.

It can help you:

- Identify and change negative thinking and behavior patterns

- Develop healthy coping skills

- Improve communication skills

- Resolve conflict in relationships

- Heal from past trauma

- Increase self-esteem and confidence

- Manage stress and anxiety
